From September 1, 2025 South Australia will ban non-compostable plastic labels on fruit and vegetables. By September 1, 2028, all produce labels and adhesives must be Australian certified home compostable. Our label material is already certified to AS 5810, Australian Home compostable, meaning our label material has passed the most stringent tests for composting in the world. If you need to move to compostable labels, choose a supplier that already produces labels with Australian certified compostable material to make the journey as seamless as possible.
- Cardboard Sleeves
Cardboard sleeves are the perfect alternative to plastic packaging for fresh produce. Wedderburn supplies fully custom cardboard sleeves that are recyclable and FSC® certified – helping you meet your 2025 packaging targets. Sleeves are available in unique shapes, with vibrant images and premium finishes to help your product stand out on the shelves and appeal to increasingly eco-conscious consumers. Sleeves can be applied by hand, or you can automate your production with our Cardboard Sleeving Machine.
Sleeve up to 100 trays per minute with our dual lane sleeving machine (50 trays per minute with a single lane sleever). Certified Australian Home Compostable (AS 5810) paddy straw trays are made from rice paddy waste – a truly renewable resource. Rice paddy waste is traditionally burnt to clear rice fields after the harvest. - Paddy Straw Trays
Our range of standard and custom made trays is ideal for fresh produce. Compostable (certified to AS 5810 AU Home Compostable) and approved for direct food contact (Regulation EC No. 1935/2004). Trays can be sealed with lidding film (standard and compostable versions available) and are compatible with a select range of Wedderburn Tray Sealers.
- NEW Product – Inline Banding Machine
Band up to 30 packs per minute with our new in-line banding machine. Compatible with both paper and OPP film bands, it features a thermal transfer printer for overprinting, easy operation and maintenance, large roll capacity (up to 1200 meters per roll) and a quick pre-heat time of 60 seconds. If you are looking to eliminate plastic from your fresh produce packaging, this banding machine will securely apply a paper band to fresh produce trays, ideal for apple and pear trays!

Make the switch to a recyclable, compliant produce tag. Our mono polypropylene tag material meets APCO recycling standards. It’s simple to switch to a recyclable tag; there’s no need to modify your printers or applicators. The material is direct thermal printable, which reduces waste as your applicators and printers don’t require carbon/PET ribbon.
